May 28 – A Very Special Night with Xamarin’s Zack Gramana!

event_238615922“Write once, run anywhere.” It’s the “have your cake and eat it too” panacea for dealing with a world full of different computing platforms. It’s also a faustian bargain that ends up catering to the lowest common denominator. Architects should instead focus on highlighting what is unique about each platform they target while reusing as much code as possible. We’ll see how, using Xamarin to build a native mobile application that targets two very different platforms: iOS and Android. Oh, and did I mention I’ll be giving away a Xamarin Indie license, along with t-shirts and monkeys?

BIO:
Zack Gramana works with the other monkeys at Xamarin. He lives in the Component Store, and swings from the rafters in his spare time.”

Massive thanks to Zach and Xamarin for highlighting this months meeting and to TEK Systems once again for sponsoring pizza and drinks at our event. We will also have drawings for JetBrains, Mindscape and Telerik software and Pluralsight access passes!!!

  • Chai is a BDD / TDD assertion library for node and the browser that can be delightfully paired with any JavaScript testing framework.
  • Jasmine is a behavior-driven development framework for testing JavaScript code. It does not depend on any other JavaScript frameworks. It does not require a DOM. And it has a clean, obvious syntax so that you can easily write tests.
  • PhantomJS is a headless WebKit with JavaScript API. It has fast and native support for various web standards: DOM handling, CSS selector, JSON, Canvas, and SVG.

Brandon D’Imperio presents this our April meeting. Brandon is a veteran speaker and frequent attendee to many of our local groups, and his talks are always informative and entertaining with loads of real life code examples.

At the conclusion of Brandon’s presentation we will have drawings for JetBrains, Mindscape and Telerik software!!!
Also thank you again to the crew at TEK Systems for again providing pizza and refreshments at our event!
